In today's society of people wanting to play games more often and have the comfort of staying at home as well, online gaming has become a fun way to fulfill this requirement. Teenagers especially are entering the online gaming world of fantasy and realism together. Fantasy is satisfied in games like Sims where the gamer can build the home of their dreams and live a life that they want to live without the rules of their parents and the nonsense of everyday life. Fantasy games like World of Warcraft and Wizard 101 offer magic and mystery to the gamer. Facebook has become a link to games as well. Games include Yoville, where the gamer can build their own life and buy furniture, relatable to Sims and Farmville, where the gamer can farm away all day long and feed animals until their heart is content. There are also games for boys on Facebook as well. These games relate to building cars as in Cartown and television related like CSI. Online gaming has reached not only adult audiences but the preschool age as well. Disney.com offers Mickey Mouse, Nickjr includes Blues Clues, and there are numerous sites that incorporate the fun of games and learning as well. If children like to play games and they are able to learn something as well, then that benefits not only the child but the parent and teachers as well. Children can be better prepared in school if parents take advantage of the educational gaming online. Teens are following the magical gaming world of Free Realms, Spore, and other online games that offer an escape from our own world to enter a world of spells and design. Even older adults are finding themselves playing games online on sites like pogo.com. Pogo offers games for card enthusiasts, gamblers, or just the laid back gamer looking for something to do. I myself enjoy the games of facebook as i can play with my friends by sending gifts and helping on their land or at their homes. I also enjoy pogo because it does not involve real money, though i can play a good game of poker. Online gaming has reached a point of fun, excitement, interest, competition, and even learning today. It allows us to continue to use our imaginations as games become more exciting and realistic and pull us in farther to the world wide web. |
